FERNANDO ALONSO is the best driver on the Formula One grid, even above Lewis Hamilton. At least that’s according to his team boss Flavio Briatore.

The flamboyant Italian, who is determined to keep Alonso on his payroll beyond 2010, reckons that in the double World Champion he has the best F1 driver bar none.
The Renault boss cited Alonso’s victories in last year’s Singapore and Japanese GPs, despite being in an inferior car to the McLaren and Ferrari, as an example of the Spaniard’s brilliance.
“Fernando Alonso is the finest driver on the grid,” the Daily Star quoted Briatore as having said, “and he proved that again last year.
“He truly is a great competitor.”
